"But among you it will be different. Whoever wants to be a leader among you must be your servant, and whoever wants to be first among you must become your slave. For even the Son of Man came not to be served but to serve others and to give his life as a ransom for many." - Jesus (Matthew 20.26-28)
In God's eyes, if you want to become great, you must first become a servant. This type of servant-leadership is not attractive to most people. In fact, it goes in direct opposition to the selfish attitude of trying to push others down in order to come out on top. But this servant-leadership is exactly what we want reflected by our student leaders at LYM.
Student Leaders are Expected to…
Attend LYM regularly as well as worship team meetings and practices (your attendance and commitment to these may affect your ability to play with a team)
Come to practices prepared and on time
Have an active, personal relationship with Christ and to demonstrate maturity and Christ-like character
Be committed to their personal growth; spiritual and otherwise
Represent the values of LYM - at home, in school, with friends and in public - and to positively reinforce the health of the youth group
Be directly accountable to the youth pastor; open to mentoring and redirection as needed
Consistently attend LYM events/services and participate in their organization, and to make every effort to attend other events as scheduled (retreats, socials, meetings, etc)
Protect the unity of LYM and the worship teams by refraining from all talk/activity that would hinder such. If you have personal concerns and/or opinions, please talk to Pastor Crystal or Sarah
Commit to creating an atmosphere at LYM where all youth are welcome and feel a sense of belonging
