The main challenge is that every day till the end of July, you'll commit to reading one chapter from the Gospel of John. You can use a physical paper Bible or the Bible App on your phone. TIP: If you're looking for an easy to read version, the NLT is a good option. Note: There’s a sign up on the youth room door at Bethesda if you’d like to drop by that on Sunday/LYM on Wednesday and add your name to it!
If you're looking to go a little deeper than the simple reading of John, we have included journaling prompts for each day, plus a prayer point that matches the Bethesda Summer Prayer Guide. This is a great way to take your challenge a step further.
You can visit the 'learn more' section to find links and information about resources to help you understand what you're reading.
Physical copies of the booklet are available at Bethesda during office hours, on Sunday, or at LYM on Wednesday.
Start with a Plan: Use a reading plan (like this one or after this is done, try one from the YouVersion Bible App) so you don’t have to wonder where to start.
Don’t Read Too Much: Even a little a day can go deep. Focus on understanding, not just finishing.
Pick a Time & Place: Consistency is easier when you read at the same time and place each day. Going to a specific place to pray may also help you stay focused.
Ask One Question: If you do not want to do our provided Journaling prompts, try this instead: After reading, ask: What does this show me about God? or How can I live this out today?
Miss a Day? Don’t Quit. One skipped day doesn’t mean failure. God’s not mad—just come back. Buddy System: Tell your guardians or pair up with a friend and check in weekly. Faith grows stronger together.
Use an Audio Support: Do you find it difficult to focus on reading? The YouVersion Bible App has audio features that can read to you while you read along.
Put your Phone on Do Not Disturb Mode: Even for the 5 minutes it may take to read one chapter, a few notifications can really delay your progress.
On the Learn More page of our booklet, we have multiple QR codes that will lead students to learn more about the Gospel of John and the themes inside. You can find some of that right here:
